The monastery of Savvathiana is located 20 kilometers west of Heraklion, at an altitude of 440 meters above the village Rogdia. It is a beautiful convent, flooded by vegetation and natural beauty, which comes from the time of Venetian rule.

The monastery is dedicated to Virgin Mary. At the site of the monastery there are three temples, the former central two-aisled church without dome dedicated to Virgin Mary and the Forty Martyrs, and the subsequent newly constructed stone built church of St. Anthony. Through the interior of the monastery starts a paved path leading to the church of St. Anthony, which passes through the beautiful gardens and orchards of the monastery, as well as over a torrent, where functioned a watermill, and crosses a small bridge built in 1.535.

In the monastery you can enjoy the beautiful gardens which gardening by nuns daily. Besides the colorful gardens nuns engaged in painting pictures, build mosaics, weaving priestly uniforms, weaving  with kopanelli and other handicrafts, organic farming and animal husbandry.
