The Venetian shipyards are one of the most impressive monuments of the Old Port of Chania. They kept in better condition than the shipyards of Heraklion but with interventions which altered their original form.

Neoria or Arsenali (Shipyards) built during the 16th century AD period by the Venetians who had occupied the island, whose fleet taking rule over the Mediterranean and were used in the repair of ships. It was open to the sea for the entry of the ship and reached 50 meters in length. There were two bands, a large consisting of 17 shipyards and a subsequent with 5 shipyards. Also there was the Great Arsenali.

Today exist only 7 consecutive shipyards of the big band, 2 from the small and the Great Arsenali. They are no longer communicating with the sea and have received restoration and configurations serving as social events places.
