The pottery is an art practicing in Greece since ancient times. The first ceramic findings have been discovered in Crete, dating to 7000 BC while the first clay vases of daily use are appeared in 6,000 BC.

The art of pottery flourished particularly in Minoan Crete from 2,000 to 1,500 BC with crockery and large storage jars of high art be excavated to distant cities of antiquity. Because of its usefulnes, pottery scontinuing the course in Greece untill this days, with its capital the village Thrapsano in Crete, where the tradition of the pottery seems to begin from 1600 AD.

From the 19th century until the 70s worked in the village 153 potteries, and there were about 180 occasional workshops across the island which worked by Thrapsano potters in summer, serving local needs. Today the village has 20 potteries continued the art with traditional techniques and instruments, producing numerous of decorative and utilitarian vessels, with worldwide exports.
